My mother — also my best friend for many years — had exquisite taste. She surrounded herself with the most elegant and beautiful — but also the most impractical.
Thus as a child I wore a winter coat with bell sleeves and a deep slit up the back. I froze for fashion.
And this year, as I struggle yet again with gorgeous yet untractable gift wrap, I cannot help but think she’d be so proud.

Fashion by nature is ephemeral. It has to be, to entice and entertain. Otherwise we’d all shop in our closets and retailers would become obsolete, like rotary phones.
